4045. Raggedy Andy

Raggedy Ann and Raggedy Andy (1941 film)- The short begins with a little girl, who wanted to buy the "beautiful girl doll" but toyshop owner tells her that the two rag dolls must be sold together: the dolls' right hands are sewed together. But the little girl didn't have enough money and the owner couldn't separate the dolls. So the toyshop owner tells the girl the story behind the two dolls.
In Ragland, needles, thread, scissors and other sewing implements come to life to create Raggedy Ann and Raggedy Andy. The paintbrush who painted the dolls' faces tells them in order to get their names, they must go to the Castle of Names, and they must hurry before sunset or they will nothing but rags for the rest of their lives. Outside, the two met the Camel with The Wrinkled Knees, who said he'll take them to the castle. But on their way to the Castle, Raggedy Andy falls under the alluring spell of a Spanish doll, breaking Raggedy Ann's candy heart. Ann was treated at the castle's hospital, and when the doctors said her broken heart is something doctors can not treat, the camel rushes out to find Andy. Meanwhile, in "Glover's Lane" the Spanish asked for Andy's name, but Andy said he doesn't have one; so she rejected him saying "You are just a nobody without a name." Luckily the camel finds Andy , and Andy rides into Ann's hospital room with the certificates for their names. He then sings the title song, "Raggedy Ann," and then she wakes up, and hugs Andy. They skip down a sort of wedding aisle and are sewn together at their right hands so that they can never be separated.
At the end of the story, the little girl, understanding the story leaves for home, when the toyshop owner said "Just because I can't sell you one doll, doesn't mean I can't give you both of them," and gives the little girl the two dolls she thanks him and walks home.

Tazmanian Devil - Taz Cartoon
Pictures and Information on the Tasmanian Devil Cartoon and Taz Devil

Taz Devil the Tazmanian Devil is a Tasmanian Devil cartoon character created by Robert McKimson and was popular in the Warner Bros Looney Tunes cartoon series.

The Taz cartoon first appeared in 1954, but was lost for a few years after Warner Bros Animation was shutdown in 1964. Taz Devil returned to Looney Tunes cartoons in the early 1990s, and today is one of the most popular cartoon characters ever, rivaling Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck and even Porky Pig!

Taz Cartoon
The Taz cartoon first made an appearance in the cartoon short Devil May Hare in 1954. Taz Devil went on to appear in 5 more short films before being shelved by Warner Bros producer Eddie Selzer for being "too obnoxious". He was brought back by Warner Bros shortly afterwards due to the public's overwhelming positive response to the Tazmanian Devil cartoon series. Taz's Hollywood career was born and he went on to make numerous cartoons with all the industry heavyweights including Bugs Bunny, Roadrunner, Sylvester the Cat and Wile E Coyote.

Taz Devil
Taz Devil was loosely based around the real life Tasmanian Devil with similar characteristics such as a ravenous appetite and communication skills consisting mostly of growls and screeches... but that is about where the similarities end. They do not really have a similar appearance, apart, possibly from a disproportionately large head! The real Tasmanian Devil does not spin around in a tornado to travel places and they tend to generally be much more sedate than their Tasmanian devil cartoon counterpart!

Tasmanian Devil Cartoon
After a rocky start Taz Devil has had a long and successful career. After his first short cartoon Devil May Hare, he has gone on to appear in hundreds of cartoons and even had his own Tasmanian Devil cartoon show Taz-Mania that was screened on Fox for 3 series in the early 1990s. He has also had some success in advertising, promoting KFC, subway and even a model of Chevrolet!

4043. Very Vanilla

It was 1952 in Watertown, New York, USA. A milk truck driver had enough of the smell of spilled milk and mentioned the problem to Julius “Jules” Sämann, a local chemist. As luck would have it, Jules had spent some time deep in the Canadian pine forests learning about aromatic oils that give evergreens their soothing, distinctive smell. Jules went to work on this all-too-common problem and – using exceptional fragrances on specialty material – soon developed the concept of a hanging air freshener. He also drew the abstract evergreen shape and gave it the brand name CAR-FRESHNER. Almost 60 years later, Jules’ unobtrusive and ecologically responsible invention is unmatched in quality, efficiency, longevity, convenience and value.

And so an American legend – and an answer for spilled milk – was born.

Jules believed in his idea and started producing the Royal Pine-scented air fresheners in an empty auto shop in Watertown. He sent samples to local gas stations and the air fresheners flew off the shelves. Soon, orders were rolling in from all over the country.

Throughout the 1950s and 60s, people realized that Jules’ air fresheners were an effective way to freshen homes, cars and offices, and the products continued to gain in popularity. Jules added other fragrances – and colors – to the line. Soon a distributor opened a European factory, and by the 1970s, the air fresheners were becoming increasingly popular around the world. Around this time Jules began calling his products the LITTLE TREES air fresheners in the United States to go with the MAGIC TREE, ARBRE MAGIQUE and WUNDER-BAUM names used in other countries.

In the 1980s, CAR-FRESHNER introduced Vanillaroma, a yellow Tree that would take over the “best selling fragrance” title from Royal Pine. The company was quickly becoming a fragrance powerhouse!

In the early 1990s, Jules handed the reins of his company to his son Ronald, a medical doctor. The two generations worked hand in hand until Jules’ death in 1999.

Jules lived to see his invention become a global symbol of freshness and quality, and an American icon. The LITTLE TREES air fresheners have appeared in countless Hollywood movies and TV shows. In fact, there is a special section on this website dedicated to reporting new sightings!

Today, CAR-FRESHNER Corporation is still a family-owned business and is still headquartered in Watertown, New York. Ronald's son Daniel joined the company as General Counsel to help steer the LITTLE TREES brand into the future. CAR-FRESHNER produces the LITTLE TREES air fresheners in its three factories in the United States: Watertown, New York; Berlin, New Hampshire; and DeWitt, Iowa. CAR-FRESHNER supplies most of the world with US-made Tree-shaped air fresheners. In Europe, however, most Trees come from official factories in Italy, Sweden and Switzerland.

Today, the LITTLE TREES air fresheners are available in over sixty fragrances, including new favorites like Black Ice and New Car Scent. CAR-FRESHNER also offers many other innovative types of air fresheners, from pump sprays to vent clips. We invite you to explore this website and our products.

The LITTLE TREES air fresheners team is joining forces with the Arbor Day Foundation to encourage people to plant trees.

Just send in an order form and proof of purchase of six LITTLE TREES air fresheners and the Arbor Day Foundation will send you a free evergreen tree. There is no charge for shipping or handling. Order forms and complete details are on special evergreen tree promotion displays at your favorite retailer. In a hurry or can't find a display or order form at your favorite retailer?

The tree you get will be appropriate for the geographic area you live in. It could be one of several varieties of redwoods, pines, spruces and firs. The promotion is available only in the continental U.S.

The trees are mailed in 14-inch tubes made from 50 percent post-consumer recycled material. The tube can be converted into a bird feeder or recycled according to local regulations. Package labels feature instructions for handling and planting the trees and a photo of a mature tree of the same species. The labels are made from recycled paper and printed with soy ink.

If the timing isn't right for planting, these hardy evergreens can be stored in the refrigerator or grown for months indoors. For best results, trees should be planted as soon as possible.

4039. Dark Phoenix

Famous Covers Series

With the new experience, of a cosmic entity dealing with human emotions, Phoenix was thus an easy target for the illusionist, Mastermind, who needed a trophy to join the Inner Circle of the prestigious (and infamous) Hellfire Club. With the help of a psionic device, created by the club's White Queen, Emma Frost, Mastermind made Phoenix believe that she was his 18th-century lover, Lady Grey. Phoenix joined the club as their Black Queen, which would allow her to relish the extremes of human emotion and sensuality. When the X-Men came to her rescue, Jean's true love, Cyclops, faced Mastermind in a psychic duel and was defeated. Cyclops' "death" broke Mastermind's hold over Phoenix's psyche--as well as any control Jean's psyche had had over the Phoenix. It brushed aside the X-Men and departed for the heavens.

As the Black Queen

As the Phoenix was the light and life of the universe, the Dark Phoenix represented power and destruction. The Phoenix became Dark Phoenix from allowing human emotions to cloud its judgment. In this state, Phoenix was the strongest, but also an evil entity that thirsted for power and destruction. Totally uncontrollable, Dark Phoenix was a force to be reckoned with as it was not bound by a human conscience. When Dark Phoenix flew back into space, her true firebird form was seen across the entire universe and even attracted the attention of Eternity.
To sate its hunger, the Dark Phoenix flew to a distant galaxy and devoured the star of the D'Bari system. The resulting nova killed billions of innocent people and a Shi'ar vessel attacked it. The Shi'ar Empress, Lilandra Neramani, was alerted before the vessel was destroyed and called a council of her intergalactic counterparts, including the Kree and Skrull empires. They concluded that, for the rest of the universe to live, Dark Phoenix must die.

Meanwhile, the Beast had found a way to neutralize Phoenix's power, temporarily. When Dark Phoenix returned to Earth, the X-Men held it at bay, while Professor X rebuilt the mental blocks in Phoenix's mind, that Mastermind had broken down. Scott, then, proposed to the Phoenix. At that moment, the Shi'ar arrived and teleported everyone aboard their flagship. Lilandra announced that Phoenix, who everyone believed to be Jean, would have to die. Professor X, unwilling to give up on one of his pupils, but romantically involved with Lilandra, challenged her to Arin'n Haelar, a Shi'ar duel of honor that cannot be refused. Professor X named the X-Men as his champions in the duel, Lilandra, her Imperial Guard.

Cyclops and Phoenix

The duel took place the next day, in the Blue Area of the moon. The Imperial Guard made short work of the X-Men, leaving Cyclops and Phoenix to make a final stand. A stray bolt hit Cyclops and Jean's control broke and Phoenix became the Dark Phoenix again. Lilandra ordered Plan Omega, which would destroy the whole solar system, in hopes of eliminating Dark Phoenix as well. Professor X ordered the X-Men to subdue Phoenix, so that Plan Omega would not be necessary, and they managed to subdue the Phoenix, for a brief time. In this moment of lucidity, Phoenix fled into a back alley, with Cyclops in pursuit. Phoenix subdued him, with her telekinesis, and told him that she was losing control of herself and that there was only one way to prevent the Dark Phoenix from taking dominance over her again. Unbeknown to Cyclops, as Phoenix was talking to him, she was using her powers to activate an ancient Kree energy weapon behind her. Phoenix, then, bade Cyclops an emotional farewell and triggered the weapon, which atomized her on the spot.

4038. Gray Hulk

Marvel Legends Galactus Series

The gray Hulk, the baser instincts of Bruce Banner, was the first version of the Hulk that the public witnessed. Perhaps because of the time relativity- the gray Hulk is the physical representation of Bruce Banner's adolescence. That is why the gray Hulk posesses a selfish sarcastic attitude- a somewhat typical teenager from hell attitude.

The gray Hulk's morales are somewhat more flexible than most of his other counterparts. In his first appearance the gray Hulk had decided to kill Rick Jones because he was the only one who knew his secret identity. He was only stopped by the sunrise. Gray Hulk uses his crafty mean streak to compensate for the fact that he isn't quite as strong as the savage green Hulk. The Abomination found this out, when after he compared gray Hulk to the savage green Hulk, Hulk doused him in toxic waste nearly killing his emrald foe. In fact one sure way to increase the gray Hulk's strength is to note that he is less impressive than his green counterpart. After all though not as strong he is still the Hulk and "the madder Hulk gets the stronger Hulk gets".

The gray Hulk also enjoyed his happiest times as a Las Vegas legbreaker Mr. Fixit. The sorcerors of Kai placed a spell on Hulk that temporarily allowed Hulk to remain during the daylight. He wore fine clothes, ate fine food, garnered respect and fear from all of Las Vegas. Hulk also engaged his more carnal desires as the most eligible bachelor in town. It was ironic that the emergence of Bruce Banner ruined things for the Hulk instead of the other way around.

4037. Nightcrawler

Marvel Legends Galactus Series

Nightcrawler's main power is that of teleportation. He can move himself and what he's carrying to nearly any location that he has seen. The farther he tries to teleport though, the more the risk he has of teleporting into a solid object. Nightcrawler teleports through an unknown dimension and leaves behind the smell of brimstone. This ability allows Nightcrawler to teleport in and out to attack his foes or make a speedy retreat.
Kurt is also extremely agile and is a trained acrobat and gymnast. He has a prehensile tail that is extremely strong as it can lift a human being and support Nightcrawler's weight in his acrobatics. His feet also have a prehensile quality which he can use to hold himself up and cling to walls.
Nightcrawler's blue fur allows him to blend into the shadows. This ability has also been tied to the dimension he travels to when he teleports. He can even appear to be in the shadows in broad daylight.

4036. Harley Davidson Pig Rider

In 1901, William S. Harley, age 21, drew up plans for a small engine with a displacement of 7.07 cubic inches (116 cc) and four-inch (102 mm) flywheels. The engine was designed for use in a regular pedal-bicycle frame. Over the next two years Harley and his childhood friend Arthur Davidson labored on their motor-bicycle using the northside Milwaukee machine shop at the home of their friend, Henry Melk. It was finished in 1903 with the help of Arthur’s brother, Walter Davidson. Upon completion the boys found their power-cycle unable to conquer Milwaukee’s modest hills without pedal assistance. Will Harley and the Davidsons quickly wrote off their first motor-bicycle as a valuable learning experiment.

Work immediately began on a new and improved second-generation machine. This first “real” Harley-Davidson motorcycle had a bigger engine of 24.74 cubic inches (405 cc) with 9.75 inches (25 cm) flywheels weighing 28 lb (13 kg). The machine’s advanced loop-frame pattern was similar to the 1903 Milwaukee Merkel motorcycle (designed by Joseph Merkel, later of Flying Merkel fame). The bigger engine and loop-frame design took it out of the motorized-bicycle category and would help define what a modern motorcycle should contain in the years to come. The boys also received help with their bigger engine from outboard motor pioneer Ole Evinrude, who was then building gas engines of his own design for automotive use on Milwaukee’s Lake Street.

4034. Little Bill

Copyright 2008 Vicom Fisher Price

Little Bill is the story of the Glover family, told through the viewpoint of the youngest son, Bill Glover Jr., affectionately known as Little Bill. Little Bill lives with his mother, Brenda, a photographer, Big Bill, a housing inspector for the city, his two older siblings, April and Bobby, and Brenda's grandmother, known as Alice The Great. Each episode usually consists of two stories showing Little Bill's home life or at school, illustrating the usual goings-on of a five year old's life. At the end of the show, Little Bill usually addresses the audience, recapping what happened to him and what he learned that day, prompting one of his other family members to ask, "Little Bill, who are you talking to?" Note: Little Bill is loosely based on the life of creator Bill Cosby, who was most likely referred to as Little Bill as a child since his name is William Henry Cosby, Jr. In real life, however, Dr. Cosby is the oldest of four brothers, not the youngest of three children.''''Congratulations to Little Bill, winner of Outstanding Children's Animated Program for the 31st Annual Daytime Emmy Awards.

4033. Tootsie Pops Cherry Bear

Tootsie Pops are hard candy lollipops filled with chocolate-flavored chewy Tootsie Roll. They were invented in 1930 by Brandon Perry, an employee of The Sweets Company of America. The company changed its name to Tootsie Roll Industries in 1966.

The candy debuted to the public in 1931. In addition to chocolate (the original flavor), Tootsie Pops come in cherry, orange, grape, raspberry, strawberry, watermelon, blue raspberry, and now, pomegranate, banana, and green apple flavors. Another release of Tootsie Roll Pops, named Tropical Stormz, features six swirl-textured flavors: orange pineapple, lemon lime, strawberry banana, apple blueberry, citrus punch, and berry berry punch.

In 2003, sixty million Tootsie Rolls and twenty million Tootsie Pops were produced every day.

Tootsie Roll Pops are known for the catch phrase “How many licks does it take to get to the Tootsie Roll center of a Tootsie Pop?”. The phrase was first introduced in an animated commercial which debuted on U.S. television in 1970. In the original television ad, a boy poses the question to a cow, a fox, a turtle and an owl. Each one of the first three animals tells the boy to ask someone else, explaining that they’d bite a Tootsie Pop every time they lick one. Eventually, he asks the owl, who starts licking it, but eventually bites into the lollipop, much to the chagrin of the boy.

4032. Rick Moranis as Barney Rubble

Bernard "Barney" Rubble is the deuteragonist of the television animated series The Flintstones. He is the diminutive blonde-haired caveman husband of Betty Rubble and father of Bamm-Bamm Rubble. His best friends are his next door neighbors, Fred and Wilma Flintstone.
Barney's personality was based on that of Ed Norton on the 1950s television series The Honeymooners, played by Art Carney. Mel Blanc, who voiced Barney, first used the Barney Rubble voice when imitating Norton in the 1956 Looney Tunes cartoon Half-Fare Hare. Like Ralph Kramden on The Honeymooners, Fred was constantly on the lookout for get-rich-quick schemes, while Barney, like Norton, found life satisfactory as it was but participated in said schemes because Fred was his friend. Usually after Fred had hatched one of his plans, Rubble would usually show his agreement by laughing and saying "er huh huh... OK, Fred!" or "huh huh huh... whatever you say, Fred!"
Barney's interests included bowling, playing pool, poker, tinkering around in Fred's garage and playing golf (though there were episodes where Barney did not know how to play golf). He, like Fred, was also a member of the Loyal Order of Water Buffalos lodge and its predecessor in earlier episodes, the Loyal Order of Dinosaurs. He is also a talented pianist and drummer. In the first episode of the original series he was an inventor of a hand-powered helicopter. Though clearly depicted as being in better shape than Fred, he isn't shown to be quite as enthusiastic a sportsman as Fred is. This distinction can be attributed to Fred's fondness of food, though Barney is shown to be almost as capable of excessive appetite on a number of occasions. His catchphrase, once repeated by Pebbles is "Scooby-dooby-doo!", which was used for another Hanna-Barbera cartoon character of the same name.

Frederick Allan "Rick" Moranis (born April 18, 1953) is a Canadian comedian, actor, musician, and a magician. Moranis came to prominence in the late 1970s on the sketch comedy show Second City Television, and later appeared in several Hollywood films including Strange Brew; Ghostbusters; Spaceballs; Little Shop of Horrors; Honey, I Shrunk the Kids; Little Giants; Parenthood; The Flintstones; and My Blue Heaven.

Her broadcasting talent was again put to the test when she became a member of ESPN Kids. Already a professional child model, Roxanne did TV commercials for the Smithsonian Museum's 150th anniversary, 4th of July, GAP and JC Penney.

Upon arriving in the Philippines when she was 13, she was one of the contestants in GMA's Metropop Search. Aside from that in 1999, Roxie became a mainstay in the GMA's then top-rated youth oriented show, Click, she learned so much in her 2½ years in the show. Roxie also made waves in the TV drama series Kahit Kailan and Sana Ay Ikaw Na Nga (I Hope It's You). She was also a regular on S.O.P. and guest-starred in several GMA shows. Her song "Kung Alam Mo Lang" ("If You Only Knew"), the Filipino version of the famous Korean love song "Because I'm a Girl" by Kiss, topped the Philippine music charts. She also has an album entitled "Roxie".

She recently starred in a contemporary full length film, Mudraks, which was screened for competition in 2006's Cinemalaya Film Festival. Roxanne played the daughter of the lead actress, Rio Locsin. The movie is about a dysfunctional family who never talk to each other.

In 2008, Roxanne decided to return back to GMA Network, her home channel, whose rival station is ABS-CBN, to do a kiddy program as one of the main host; she called in the programme Ate Anne in the show called Batang Bibo . But in early 2009 she was casted to the most awaited fantasy series starring Marian Rivera in Darna. After Darna Roxanne appeared on First Time together with Joross Gamboa and Michelle Madrigal who were also a former ABS-CBN member. In 2010, Barcelo returned to hosting a children's show via "Art Angel" on GMA 7 with original host Tonypet Gaba replacing former hosts Pia Archangel & Krystal Reyes.

4030. Macaulay Culkin as Kevin McCallister

Kevin McCallister is the main protagonist of the films Home Alone, Home Alone 2: Lost in New York, and Home Alone 4 in the Home Alone franchise. Kevin is played by Macaulay Culkin in the first two films, but in Home Alone 4, Kevin is played by Mike Weinberg. Kevin is not featured in Home Alone 3, as the film takes place during Home Alone 2. Kevin's most famous pose is when he has both hands on his cheeks, and screams.

Kevin is the fifth of Kate and Peter's five children, and the youngest son. He was born and is currently living in Chicago. Kevin has four siblings; his two older brothers, Buzz and Jeff, and two older sisters, Linnie and Megan.
Kevin has lots of relatives. Kevin has two aunts; Leslie and Georgette. He has two uncles; Frank and Rob. He has six cousins; through Frank and Leslie he had five: Rod, Tracy, Sondra, Brooke, and Fuller, who wears glasses and is famous for drinking soda (such as Pepsi or Coca-Cola) and wetting the bed. Through Rob and Georgette, Heather is Kevin's cousin, as well as three unnamed children who were seen only briefly in the first film.

Macaulay Carson Culkin (born August 26, 1980) is an American actor. He became widely known for his portrayal of Kevin McCallister in Home Alone and Home Alone 2: Lost in New York. He is also known for his roles in Richie Rich, Uncle Buck, My Girl, The Pagemaster, and Party Monster, as well as Michael Jackson's music video Black or White. At the height of his fame, he was regarded as the most successful child actor since Shirley Temple.
Culkin was ranked No. 2 in VH1 and E!'s respective lists, the "100 Greatest Kid-Stars" and "50 Greatest Child Stars".

Culkin began acting at the age of four. Early roles saw him appearing in a stage production of Bach Babies at the New York Philharmonic. He continued appearing in roles on stage, television, and in films throughout the 1980s. Notable parts in this period included an episode of the popular action series The Equalizer in which he played the victim of a kidnapping, and also in the TV movie The Midnight Hour. In 1989 he starred in Uncle Buck with John Candy.
Culkin rose to international fame with his lead role as Kevin McCallister in the blockbuster film Home Alone (1990), where he was reunited with Uncle Buck writer and director John Hughes and Uncle Buck co-star John Candy. He reprised the role of Kevin in the 1992 sequel Home Alone 2: Lost in New York.
Culkin also starred in a Saturday morning cartoon entitled Wish Kid, and hosted Saturday Night Live in late 1991.
By then, Culkin was in high demand and was paid a reported $750,000 by the World Wrestling Federation to serve as the ring bearer in Macho Man Randy Savage's wedding to Miss Elizabeth at SummerSlam in 1991.
Despite the huge success of Uncle Buck, Home Alone, Home Alone 2: Lost in New York, and My Girl, other films Culkin acted in, such as The Good Son, only did reasonably well (although he was nominated for MTV Movie Award in the category for Best Villain for his performance in the film). Getting Even with Dad, Richie Rich, and The Pagemaster, all released in 1994, were only mildly successful at the box office. He also appeared in a filmed version of The Nutcracker as the title role in 1993, which was staged from the 1954 George Balanchine New York City Ballet version of the ballet. He appeared in the 1998 music video for the song "Sunday" by the rock band Sonic Youth.

Geography
Covering most of the northern part of the North American continent and with an area larger than that of the United States, Canada has an extremely varied topography. In the east, the mountainous maritime provinces have an irregular coastline on the Gulf of St. Lawrence and the Atlantic. The St. Lawrence plain, covering most of southern Quebec and Ontario, and the interior continental plain, covering southern Manitoba and Saskatchewan and most of Alberta, are the principal cultivable areas. They are separated by a forested plateau rising from Lakes Superior and Huron.

Westward toward the Pacific, most of British Columbia, the Yukon, and part of western Alberta are covered by parallel mountain ranges, including the Rockies. The Pacific border of the coast range is ragged with fjords and channels. The highest point in Canada is Mount Logan (19,850 ft; 6,050 m), which is in the Yukon. The two principal river systems are the Mackenzie and the St. Lawrence. The St. Lawrence, with its tributaries, is navigable for over 1,900 mi (3,058 km).

Government
Canada is a federation of ten provinces (Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, Quebec, and Saskatchewan) and three territories (Northwest Territories, Yukon, and Nunavut). Formally considered a constitutional monarchy, Canada is governed by its own House of Commons. While the governor-general is officially the representative of Queen Elizabeth II, in reality the governor-general acts only on the advice of the Canadian prime minister.

History
The first inhabitants of Canada were native Indian peoples, primarily the Inuit (Eskimo). The Norse explorer Leif Eriksson probably reached the shores of Canada (Labrador or Nova Scotia) in 1000, but the history of the white man in the country actually began in 1497, when John Cabot, an Italian in the service of Henry VII of England, reached Newfoundland or Nova Scotia. Canada was taken for France in 1534 by Jacques Cartier. The actual settlement of New France, as it was then called, began in 1604 at Port Royal in what is now Nova Scotia; in 1608, Quebec was founded. France's colonization efforts were not very successful, but French explorers by the end of the 17th century had penetrated beyond the Great Lakes to the western prairies and south along the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico. Meanwhile, the English Hudson's Bay Company had been established in 1670. Because of the valuable fisheries and fur trade, a conflict developed between the French and English; in 1713, Newfoundland, Hudson Bay, and Nova Scotia (Acadia) were lost to England. During the Seven Years' War (1756–1763), England extended its conquest, and the British general James Wolfe won his famous victory over Gen. Louis Montcalm outside Quebec on Sept. 13, 1759. The Treaty of Paris in 1763 gave England control.

In the early 1970s, Sam and a friend, Bill Biel, started a small company to produce his Precious Moments art on a line of cards and posters, calling their company Jonathan & David. They took their goods to the annual Christian Booksellers Association Convention in Anaheim and their tiny booth was filled with enthusiastic retailers wanting to order the new line. The crowd became so large that neighboring vendors came over to help the two young men write orders.

Shortly thereafter, Sam was approached by Enesco Corporation to develop a three-dimensional figurine based on his artwork titled “Love One Another.” Sam was so overwhelmed when he saw the first porcelain sample that he fell to his knees and wept. It was the beginning of a phenomenon for both Sam and the gift industry.

By the end of 1978, the first twenty-one original Precious Moments figurines were introduced to the market. The response to the collection was incredible. People began to write to Sam, telling him about how the Precious Moments figurines had touched their lives in a moving and heartfelt way. In less than a year after their introduction, demand was overwhelming. The success of the Precious Moments figurines was amazing, yet Sam never lost touch with his original purpose to create art which combined his heartfelt emotions with his abiding faith.

The collection is now well over 1,500 pieces with new introductions offered each year. Members of collector's clubs continue to be found throughout the world. Even more telling, since its opening in 1989, Precious Moments Park in Carthage, Missouri has welcomed approximately 400,000 visitors every year.

In 2005, a new chapter in the Precious Moments story began, as the collection “came home” to join the rest of the Precious Moments family at Precious Moments, Incorporated. No other collection has touched as many hearts as Precious Moments, and no other group of individuals has the same love and passion for this product line as the team at Precious Moments, Inc. We are more committed than ever to expanding the success and vision of the Precious Moments legacy.

4026. Dr. Jack Shephard

Dr. Jack Shephard is a fictional character and protagonist of the ABC television series Lost played by Matthew Fox. Lost follows the journey of the survivors of Oceanic Airlines flight 815 on a mysterious island and their attempts to survive and escape, slowly uncovering more of the much broader island history they are a part of. The character was originally conceived by creator J. J. Abrams, though the direction of storylines owes more to co-creator Damon Lindelof and fellow showrunner Carlton Cuse. Actor Matthew Fox would have some influence on the character along the way; for example, Fox's own tattoos were incorporated into the character's backstory. Although at an early stage in the show's development, the character was originally intended to die in the pilot, the writers soon changed track and Jack became the show's main character from its pilot episode onwards.
The de facto leader of the crash survivors, in the show's first four seasons Jack is very much a man of science; he serves as the antithesis of man of faith John Locke (Terry O'Quinn). However, his experiences in season five mould Jack into a believer, to the point of becoming John Locke's spiritual successor in the final season. His leadership role culminates in him taking briefly over as protector of the island from its immortal guardian, Jacob (Mark Pellegrino) and being the one to engage one of the series' villains, the Man in Black (O'Quinn) in a climactic battle to the death. Jack's storylines have incorporated love interests: fellow survivor Kate Austen (Evangeline Lilly) and Juliet Burke (Elizabeth Mitchell), one of the mysterious Others who are the series' visible antagonists for the majority of its run. Other key relationships in the show involve Claire Littleton (Emilie de Ravin), whom he discovers is his half-sister; Hugo "Hurley" Reyes (Jorge Garcia) as his right-hand man; and Sawyer (Josh Holloway), his rival for leadership of the survivors and for the affections of Kate, even when at some points, Sawyer calls him the nearest thing he has as a friend.

4025. Medieval Spawn

Spawn (Albert Francis "Al" Simmons/Jim Downing) is a fictional comic book superhero who appears in a monthly comic book of the same name published by Image Comics. Created by writer/artist Todd McFarlane, Spawn first appeared in Spawn #1 (May 1992). Spawn was ranked 60th on Wizard magazine's list of the Top 200 Comic Book Characters of All Time, 50th on Empire magazine's list of The 50 Greatest Comic Book Characters and recently 36th on IGN's Top 100 Comic Book Heroes.

The series has spun off several other comics, including Angela, Curse of the Spawn, Sam & Twitch, and the Japanese manga Shadows of Spawn. Spawn was adapted into a 1997 feature film, an HBO animated series lasting from 1997 until 1999, and a series of action figures whose high level of detail made McFarlane Toys known in the toy industry.

While Spawn's abilities have fluctuated over the years, his core powers are derived from the necroplasm that makes up his body. This dense substance grants him superhuman strength, speed, agility, endurance, and healing. His necroplasm also gives him necro-magic, a variety of supernatural powers including teleportation, phasing, resurrecting the dead, necro-energy blasts, and much more. He can unleash the very fury of Hell through his body, however his magic is limited by a meter which starts at 9,999 and drains each time he uses his necro-energy. He is able to "feed" off the evil energy of the world including people and "dark animals" (rats, bats, roaches, worms, insects, wolves, and snakes). He is also an empathic being able to sense the emotions of others whenever he chooses. He can manipulate the elements and fly.
Spawn wears a living, sentient necroplasm-based symbiote suit, named Leetha of the 7th house of K (K7-Leetha). The suit feeds from the necroplasm in Spawn's body and his cape, spikes, and chains are all part of an organism that is bonded to his central nervous system; because of this connection he can mentally manipulate the suit to perform shapeshifting feats without draining his necro-meter.
Although Spawn is virtually immortal, he may be killed by a holy weapon forged in Heaven or by his own necro-power. He is also rendered powerless (and therefore mortal) in places that are immune to the influence of Hell, such as The Dead Zone (a patch of alley that is touched by Heaven) and the Greenworld.
Spawn also holds a vast arsenal of military grade weaponry and equipment as he frequently uses firearms as an alternative to his supernatural powers.

4024. Kiefer Sutherland as Jack Bauer

Sutherland's first major role was in the Canadian drama, The Bay Boy (1984), which earned Sutherland and director Daniel Petrie, Genie award nominations for best actor and best director, respectively. Following his success in "The Bay Boy", Sutherland eventually moved to Los Angeles and landed television appearances in "The Mission", an episode of "Amazing Stories" (1985) and in the telefilm Trapped in Silence (1986) (TV) with Marsha Mason.

He currently stars in the Fox drama "24" (2001) as Jack Bauer for which he has earned a Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Drama Series. Most recently he has been seen in the movie Phone Booth (2002) as a man who calls up someone at a phone booth and threatens to kill them if they hang up.

4022. Santa Claus

Santa Claus, also known as Saint Nicholas, Father Christmas and simply "Santa", is a figure with legendary, mythical, historical and folkloric origins who, in many western cultures, is said to bring gifts to the homes of the good children during the late evening and overnight hours of Christmas Eve, December 24. The modern figure was derived from the Dutch figure of Sinterklaas, which, in turn, may have part of its basis in hagiographical tales concerning the historical figure of gift giver Saint Nicholas. A nearly identical story is attributed by Greek and Byzantine folklore to Basil of Caesarea. Basil's feast day on January 1 is considered the time of exchanging gifts in Greece.
Santa Claus is generally depicted as a portly, joyous, white-bearded man wearing a red coat with white collar and cuffs, white-cuffed red trousers, and black leather belt and boots (images of him rarely have a beard with no moustache). This image became popular in the United States and Canada in the 19th century due to the significant influence of Clement Clarke Moore's 1823 poem "A Visit From St. Nicholas" and of caricaturist and political cartoonist Thomas Nast. This image has been maintained and reinforced through song, radio, television, children's books and films. The North American depiction of Santa Claus as it developed in the 19th and 20th century in turn influenced the modern perceptions of Father Christmas, Sinterklaas and Saint Nicholas in European culture.
According to a tradition which can be traced to the 1820s, Santa Claus lives at the North Pole, with a large number of magical elves, and nine (originally eight) flying reindeer. Since the 20th century, in an idea popularized by the 1934 song "Santa Claus Is Coming to Town", Santa Claus has been believed to make a list of children throughout the world, categorizing them according to their behavior ("naughty" or "nice") and to deliver presents, including toys, and candy to all of the well-behaved children in the world, and sometimes coal to the naughty children, on the single night of Christmas Eve. He accomplishes this feat with the aid of the elves who make the toys in the workshop and the reindeer who pull his sleigh.

Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer is a Christmas television special produced in stop motion animation by Rankin/Bass. It first aired Sunday, December 6, 1964, on the NBC television network in the United States, and was sponsored by General Electric under the umbrella title of The General Electric Fantasy Hour. The copyright year in Roman numerals was mismarked as MCLXIV (1164) instead of the correct MCMLXIV.
The special was based on the Johnny Marks song by the same name; the song taken from the 1939 poem of the same title written by Marks' brother-in-law, Robert L. May. Since 1972, the special has aired on CBS affilliate television stations with the network unveiling a high-definition, digitally remastered version of the program in 2005. As with A Charlie Brown Christmas and How the Grinch Stole Christmas, Rudolph no longer airs just once annually, but several times during the Christmas and holiday season. It has been telecast every year since 1964, making it the longest running Christmas TV special, and one of only four 1960s Christmas specials still being telecast - the others being A Charlie Brown Christmas, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, and Frosty the Snowman.

4020. Ralph Lauren Bear

Copyright 1998 Polo

Ralph Lauren (born October 14, 1939) is an American fashion designer and business executive; best known for his Polo Ralph Lauren clothing brand.

Ralph Lauren was born Ralph Lifshitz in The Bronx, New York, to Ashkenazi Jewish immigrants, from Pinsk, Belarus: Fraydl (née Kotlar) and Frank Lifshitz, a house painter.
Ralph attended the Salanter Academy Jewish Day School followed by MTA (now known as the Marsha Stern Talmudical Academy), before eventually graduating from DeWitt Clinton High School in 1957. In MTA Lauren was known by his classmates for selling ties to his fellow students. In a moment of spontaneity, when asked what he wanted to do in his Clinton yearbook he stated under his picture that he wanted to be a millionaire. During the summer, Ralph attended Camp Roosevelt (Monticello).
At the age of 16, Ralph's brother Terry (who was his guardian) changed their last name to Lauren to avoid the unfortunate obscenity reference Lifshitz has in English (although Ralph's brother Lenny retained the name). Apparently Ralph was teased about it in school. “My given name has the word shit in it,” he told Oprah Winfrey. “When I was a kid, the other kids would make a lot of fun of me. It was a tough name. That's why I decided to change it. Then people said, "Did you change your name because you don't want to be Jewish?" I said, "Absolutely not. That's not what it's about. My cousins who lived in California had changed their last name to Lawrence. So I just thought, "I'm going to pick a nice last name"—it wasn't particularly connected to anything or anyone."
He went to Baruch College where he studied business, although he dropped out after two years. From 1962 to 1964 he served in the United States Army.[citation needed] He did not attend fashion school, but worked for Brooks Brothers as a salesman. In 1967, with the financial backing of Manhattan clothing manufacturer Norman Hilton, Lauren opened a necktie store where he also sold ties of his own design, under the label "Polo." He later purchased the name from Hilton.

4015. Hugs To You Bear

Copyright 1998 2005 The Boyds Collection

Boyds Bears is a line of collectible resin and stuffed teddy bears produced by Enesco.

Boyds Bears was founded by Gary M. Lowenthal and his wife, Justina Unger. They were owners of an antique shop, which although profitable, found difficulty maintaining an inventory of well priced antiques. They then turned to making and selling antique reproductions. Some of their more profitable reproductions included duck decoys. In 1984 they began sculpting with resin, at first making a line of miniature houses called "The Gnomes Homes". The first bear was a stuffed bear made for the couple's newborn son, Matthew. They began making and selling stuffed bears, and the bears became known as "Boyds Bears" for the town of Boyds, Maryland, where they lived and operated their business. The line of plush bears and rabbits was a hugely popular success, and in 1993 Boyds introduced the first resin bears. Today the Boyds company has several product lines, but the bears remain the most successful. Enesco acquired the company in 2008.

The Boyds Bears official fan club is called the "Loyal Order of Friends of Boyds!" It was founded in 1996. Membership costs US$29.99 for the 2007 kit, which included an exclusive denim tote, a 10" plush bear, bearstone and bearware member pin (all items are of coordinating colors). Newly designed kits are available annually. Benefits include exclusive members-only collectors items, an online newsletter and access to a members-only website.

4006-4012. Victoria Everglot, Elder Gutenknatch, Paul The Head Waiter, Scraps & Weiner Dog, and Zombie Gentleman

Emily Watson as Victoria Everglot, Victor van Dort's sweet-natured, determined fiance. Victoria Everglot is the second main female character of the movie. She is the daughter of Finis Everglot and Maudeline Everglot, aristocrats who have fallen on hard times. She is gentle, soft-spoken, and a little shy. But she is also not above bending or breaking rules, and actively attempts to seek aid for Victor once she believes he is in trouble.

Michael Gough as Elder Gutknecht, an ancient and rickety skeleton. Elder Gutknecht is one of the residents of the Land of the Dead. He lives at the top of an old, crumbling tower, in a room filled with books and ravens. He is a hunched-over skeleton with no teeth, a wispy fragment of beard, and spectacles. Initially presented as a frightening figure, he proves to be rather kind and grandfatherly. He is implied to be gifted magically, and he is the one who sends Victor and Emily Upstairs to meet Victor's parents via the Ukranian Haunting Spell. He later presides over what would have been Victor and Emily's proper wedding.

Paul The Head Waiter is the head waiter at the Ball & Socket pub in the Land of the Dead. Appropriately for his title, Paul is nothing more than a head. He gets around via an array of cockroaches, who carry his head and fetch drinks for him. Two also serve as a bowtie. His face is a bit lopsided, and he speaks with a French accent.

Scrap is Victor's pet dog, and in the movie is a resident of the Land of the Dead. Scraps is technically first seen in Victor's bedroom, in a painting showing a young Victor and a dog with a bright red collar. Scraps in the Land of the Dead has decayed down to a skeleton, though he retains his bright red collar. He is loyal and friendly, though prone to barking. He helps stop Barkis from kidnapping Victoria at the end by biting his leg, forcing Barkis to release her.

Weiner Dog

Zombie Gentleman

Corpse Bride, often promoted as Tim Burton's Corpse Bride, is a 2005 stop-motion-animated fantasy musical film directed by Mike Johnson and Tim Burton. It is set in a fictional Victorian era village in Europe. Johnny Depp led an all-star cast as the voice of Victor, while Helena Bonham Carter (for whom the project was specially created) voiced Emily, the title character. Corpse Bride is the third stop-motion feature-film produced by Tim Burton (not including his short film Vincent), the first two being The Nightmare Before Christmas and James and the Giant Peach.
The film was nominated in the 78th Academy Awards for Best Animated Feature, but was bested by Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit. It was shot with a battery of Canon EOS-1D Mark II digital SLRs, rather than the 35mm film cameras used for Burton's previous stop-motion film The Nightmare Before Christmas.

4005. Emily the Stirling Engine

Emily the Stirling Engine is a fictional anthropomorphic steam locomotive from the television series Thomas and Friends. She was the first female steam engine to be featured in the television series, and is the only female member of the "Steam Team", the eight core characters of the series. She is painted dark green, and has large driving wheels and a shiny brass safety valve cover.
When she first arrived on the Island of Sodor, she took Thomas's coaches Annie and Clarabel by mistake, much to Thomas' dismay. However after she rescued Thomas and Oliver from an accident, Thomas forgave her. Sir Topham Hatt (the "Fat Controller") rewarded her with two coaches of her own. From Season 8 onwards she has been depicted as a rather bossy character, which can make her difficult to work with at times. She is sometimes a "big sister" figure to the smaller engines like Thomas and Percy. She speaks with a Scottish accent.
Emily is the only member of the Steam Team who does not appear in the Railway Series, the books that form the basis of the television series. She was a relatively late addition to the TV series, arriving in Series 7.
In the more recent (CGI) stories, from Hero of the Rails onwards, Emily is voiced by Teresa Gallagher (UK) and Jules de Jongh (US).

Emily had been a kind-hearted engine when she first arrived. But soon she gained a more bossy attitude.[citation needed] She bossed Thomas once, which made him cross. She has been good friends with Thomas ever since her first arrival.

Emily is based on a Stirling 4-2-2 of the Great Northern Railway. These locomotives were used on high-speed express services from York to London in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The Great Northern Railway used a dark emerald green livery on their locomotives similar to that carried by Emily.
Whilst the Stirling 4-2-2 is a tender engine, Emily is incorrectly described as a tank engine in some of the Thomas and Friends books.

4004. Gordon

Gordon is a pompous express engine. He is Flying Scotsman's only remaining brother and Mallard and Spencer's cousin.

Gordon was built experimentally by Sir Nigel Gresley at Doncaster Works between 1917 and 1920 as an "A0 Pacific". When Gresely was finished using Gordon for designing his A1 Pacifics, he sold Gordon, along with a spare boiler and firebox, to the North Western Railway.
Gordon is mainly used for passenger duties, pulling the North Western Railway's express, the "Wild Nor' Wester", but has occasionally pulled goods trains: he has been known to run into ditches and stop on hills to get out of doing these jobs, as he believes that these are below him.

In 1939, Gordon went to Crovan's Gate for a rebuild. His conjugated valve gear was replaced by a two-cylinder design, he received a smoother running plate (designed by the Fat Controller), Stanier underframes, "Black-5" wheels, cylinders, squared-off side windows, rectangular buffers, and a Fowler tender.

Gordon has become famous after his adventures: in 1953 he pulled Queen Elizabeth II's royal train and in 1956 he traveled to London, where he was lauded by a large crowd. Gordon did not like the visit, however, as he discovered that London's big station was St. Pancras.

In 1986, Gordon got to visit Carlisle when a Diesel taking a Railtour failed.

In 2010, he was demoted from pulling the express regularly to Barrow due to the purchase of Pip and Emma.

Gordon's important position as the engine who usually pulls the Express has made him proud, pompous and arrogant, with good reason, too; he is the strongest engine on Sodor after all. Gordon's philosophy "tender engines don't shunt" meant that he looked down on tank engines and tender engines who do shunt, but after being locked in the shed with Henry and James after going on strike he seems to have abandoned this philosophy.
Because of his rank in the social order of the North Western Railway, Gordon expects to get the important jobs and either sulks when he doesn't, or gets jealous of those who do. Sometimes, Gordon acts as a bully, particularly towards Edward, but following mis-adventures where Edward had to help him, Gordon had to acknowledge that despite being old, Edward is still a very useful engine.

Sometimes Gordon shows a kinder side and gives the younger engines advice, usually after he has had some mishap as a result of his foolhardiness. Some of his advice isn't exactly honest, though, as James and Sir Handel have discovered.

According to Sodor "historian" Martin Clutterbuck, Gordon is supposed to be an experimental prototype for Sir Nigel Gresley's A1 "Pacific" design for the GNR - the so called "A0". Gordon was then built at Doncaster Works, Yorkshire, and tested against a similar NER Pacific in 1923. Gordon, being an experimental engine, never received a number, and was later rebuilt at Crewe with LMS underparts and a six-wheel tender, owning to various problems. Gordon has since been rebuilt below the footplate according to Stanier designs, his running plate being Sir Topham Hatt's own design.

4002. Edward

Edward is the No. 2 blue engine. He is one of the older and wiser engines on Sir Topham Hatt's railway. Edward is kind and a good friend to everyone. When the other engines misbehave, it's Edward that Sir Topham Hatt turns to in order to calm everyone down and restore order.

Edward did not have a number on his side in the first original stories. It was only after Book 6 in the Railway Series that Edward received his #2. Edward is based on a 4-4-0 locomotive.

Edward is a mixed-traffic engine.

Edward was built by Sharp Stewart and Company in Manchester, England in 1896 and worked on the Furness Railway before coming to Sodor in 1920 to finish the building of the North Western Railway. After his work was completed, Edward was kept in a shed, to the delight of the other engines, who claimed that he was too weak to work. Edward was eventually let out again, and proved that what he lacked in strength he made up for in work ethic.
Edward currently runs the Wellsworth-Brendam branch line with BoCo and occasionally Donald and Douglas. He is sometimes used as a pilot engine for special trains.

Edward is kind-hearted and always keen to help a friend in need. The small engines trust him to lend a listening ear and sympathetic advice. He is a hard worker too, and always does his best to finish a job.
Sadly, the big engines often see Edward as old-fashioned and slow. While it is true he is the oldest engine on the North Western Railway - it must be noted he helped build it - he has proved time and time again that he is more than capable of working as hard as any engine, but he is a more clever and wiser engine, too.

Since the sixth season, Edward's persona differs slightly. Despite his reputation of being kind and friendly, Edward has sometime seemed to act cheeky. Edward has also acted with a lack of confidence in himself in that he keeps secrets from the other engines and the Fat Controller when once he was leaking steam and likewise when he was told to pull the post train whilst Percy was being repaired. Sometimes, Edward has seemed to share the same personality as James, such as when he decided to show off his special waterwheel and laughed at Thomas when he was wearing a funny funnel.

Unlike most characters, Edward is not directly based upon any particular class of locomotive. The Reverend W. Awdry had stated that Edward is based on a heavily modified Sharp, Stewart and Co. "Larger Seagull", supplied to the Furness Railway in 1896.
Sodor "historian" Martin Clutterbuck notes that Edward bears a close resemblance to a LNER D3/4 "Glen" (NBR Reid Class K) 4-4-0 from the London and North Eastern Railway. At any rate, the Reverend W. Awdry used an engine of this class to represent Edward on his model railway.

Crovan's Gate modifications to be seen are making the rear splasher flush with the cab, new cab windows as opposed to cutaway, and new cab lookouts as opposed to the round originals.

The inspiration for Edward himself came from the Reverend W. Awdry's watching trains on the Great Western Railway as a child. He said in an interview with Brian Sibley for The Thomas the Tank Engine Man that, to him, the noise of the locomotives' exhaust almost sounded like dialogue - for example, the larger engine having trouble climbing the hills would appear to be saying, "I can't do it, I can't do it," and the smaller engine helping them would sound like it were saying, "I will do it! I will do it! I will do it!" Later, Reverend Awdry told his son a bedtime story about an engine who was sad because he was never taken out of the shed for being old. Upon being asked what the engine's name was by his son, the Reverend Awdry picked the name Edward out of thin air.

Edward is painted NWR blue with the NWR red and yellow lining and the number "2" painted on his tender sides in bright yellow with a red border. In the Railway Series, he carries two builder's plates on the sides of his cab.
It can be assumed that, before arriving on Sodor, Edward was painted in the Furness Railway's red livery with the letters "FR" written in yellow on his tender sides and black wheels.
