Budweiser first became a sponsor of Manchester United in 2002, becoming the club’s "official" beer. They have this status with several different teams and sports, ranging from MLS teams to the NBA, Major League Baseball and NASCAR racing.
This sponsorship deal has been renewed with a contract that will see us until the end of 2010.
According to Budweiser’s Tony Ponturo, this is “teaming the world’s favourite beer with the most-watched sports team.”
Bud have been sponsors of the World Cup since the 1980s, showing dedication to football, something which David Gill appreciates.

Manchester United is one of the wealthiest and most widely supported football teams in the world. As of July 2011, the club is number one in Forbes magazine's annual ranking of the world's 50 most valuable sports teams, valued at $1.86 billion. After being floated on the London Stock Exchange in 1991, the club was purchased by Malcolm Glazer in May 2005 in a deal valuing the club at almost £800 million.
