Ganz is a Canadian company best known for distributing plush animals and collectibles. More recently it is known as the manufacturer of Webkinz, the toy with an interactive virtual-reality Internet site.[1] and appears based on a combination of ideas from the Club Penguin and Neo Pets products also in the same marketplace.
The success of Webkinz Pets and other like items helped the fortunes of the Ganz family who then decided to start The Webkinz Foundation. The Webkinz Foundation is a charitable organization that focuses on supporting children's programs worldwide and provides the company with valuable marketing and tax benefits.
Founded in 1950 by Holocaust survivors Samuel Ganz and his sons Jack Ganz and Sam Ganz, it was called Ganz Bros. Toys Limited and was well known to generations of Canadians who had the products in their home. They were major carnival suppliers and manufactured many products in their own factory until switching completely to offshore production to save costs. A private company with headquarters just north of Toronto in Woodbridge, Ontario, it is now run by elderly Sam and his son Howard. No financial information about the company is available to their customers or the public.
Ganz is known as a user of Ty's copyrighted TyTips fabric, which is on several of the older Webkinz. Ganz has been named as respondent in many lawsuits and requires the services of lawyers on a regular basis.
Ganz produces several toy lines, such as Tubby Tummies, Webkinz, Bears, and many more.
