2556. Milo a.k.a Caesar

Milo, better known as Caesar, is a fictional character in the Planet of the Apes movie series, starting with the third film, Escape from the Planet of the Apes. He is the leader (and chief instigator) of the ape revolution in the fourth entry, Conquest of the Planet of the Apes, and the ruler of Ape City in the fifth and final film, Battle for the Planet of the Apes. He was portrayed in both movies by actor Roddy McDowall, who had also played Cornelius.
He is the son of talking chimpanzees Cornelius and Zira. Originally named Milo after Dr. Milo, who travelled back in time with Cornelius and Zira to the Earth of Taylor's era, he was reared by his human foster father Armando, a traveling circus owner who gave Cornelius and Zira sanctuary when Zira went into labor in the final act of Escape from the Planet of the Apes. Before departing, Zira switched the infant Milo with a young chimpanzee recently born to Armando's primitive chimpanzee. The other chimpanzee baby was killed, along with Cornelius and Zira, by the human Dr. Otto Hasslein. Milo speaks his first word, "Mama", at the very end of the film. His false identity secure, Milo grew up as a mute acrobat.
Armando addresses Milo by the name Caesar in the next film, Conquest of the Planet of the Apes. In the opening minutes of Conquest, he and Armando are visiting a large city for the first time, and Armando leads him around on a chain. In private, though, Caesar stands nearly erect, and he chats back and forth with Armando like a father and son. Armando critiques Caesar's "act" of behaving like a primitive chimpanzee, then gives him an idea of what to expect: In the years Caesar has been growing up in the provinces, many of the events his parents warned humanity about (before they were murdered, in an attempt to prevent their occurrence) have taken place — the most significant being the space-borne plague that killed virtually all of Earth's dogs and cats, leaving humanity without pets. Monkeys at first took their place, then gradually apes, who progressed from companions to household helpers, and eventually to a state of slavery.

171. Pericles

Pericles was one of the genetically enhanced chimpanzees aboard the space station Oberon in 2029, as was his mate, Aspasia. Captain Leo Davidson was his trainer, conditioning him to pilot space pods on reconaissance missions, and also grew to be very fond of Pericles, almost regarding him as a pet. When a great electromagnetic storm was detected in space, Pericles was dispatched in the small 'Alpha Pod' craft to check it out. Leo didn't like the idea and would have preferred to go himself. However his commander, Vasich, believed in sending a chimp before sending a man to explore something dangerous. When Pericles lost contact while piloting the space pod, Leo sneaked onboard 'Delta Pod' and followed him, only to get caught in the same electrical storm, which rocketed Leo through time and caused his pod to crash on a strange new world ruled by apes but also populated by humans who existed as savages and slaves.

169. Karubi

Karubi was Daena's father and the leader of their human tribe. He escaped with the other human slaves, but stayed behind and gave his life to allow the others to get away. He was killed by Thade while trying to distract the Apes.

168. Birn

Birn is a young member of 'Tek' human clan who is captured along with Daena, Karubi, and Leo by Apes during a roundup. When the three escape, the boy insists on being up front with Leo and the others as part of their plan to surprise the Apes. When the boy doesn't stay behind as told, he gets caught in the stirrup of his horse and has to be saved by Leo who cuts him free and then runs on foot, while the brave foolish boy rides to safety on his horse. He is seen fight alongside Limbo.

166-167. Attar and his horse

Colonel Attar was the commander of the Ape Armies. He was the loyal lieutenant of General Thade and enjoyed the thrill of hunting humans. One key difference though was that he was a devoted follower of the ape religion based on the worship of the first ape, Semos. Attar demanded that everyone bow their heads before dinner so a prayer to Semos could be delivered. Attar learned the art of fighting under his teacher Krull, whom he had to fight and kill in the ultimate battle. When the spacepod piloted by Pericles landed on the battle field, he and the other ape soldiers dropped their weapons believing it was the return of their god. He realised that Thade, Thade's father, and the elders of ape society had been misleading the population for centuries and he took the side of Leo, Ari and the humans.
Many years later, in the events of Dark Horse Comics' The Human War and Planet of the Apes comics #1-6 (a.k.a. Old Gods and Blood Lines), Attar escaped from his exile of twenty years on Shame Island and went on a quest with Seneca and Esau to find and help his old friend Ari - he had been banished there by the ape authorities after he stopped short of wiping out the human rebels at the end of the movie. They were persued by the ape army of his grandson Kharim, keen to restore the family honour after Attar's disgrace. They would have eventually found Ari on a remote island and used her help to bring real equality to the planet had the comic series continued.

Michael Clarke Duncan as Col. Attar: A gorilla military officer and Thade's closest associate. Djimon Hounsou turned down the role because of scheduling conflicts with The Four Feathers.

149. Planet of the Apes

Planet of the Apes is a 2001 American science fiction film, based on Pierre Boulle's novel and a remake of the 1968 film of the same name. Tim Burton directed the film, which stars Mark Wahlberg, Tim Roth, Helena Bonham Carter, Michael Clarke Duncan, Paul Giamatti, and Estella Warren. It tells the story of astronaut Leo Davidson crash-landing on a planet inhabited by intelligent apes. The apes treat humans as slaves, but with the help of an ape named Ari, Leo starts a rebellion.
Development for a Planet of the Apes remake started as far back as 1988 with Adam Rifkin. His project nearly reached the pre-production stage before being canceled. Terry Hayes's script, titled Return of the Apes, would have starred Arnold Schwarzenegger, under the direction of Phillip Noyce. Oliver Stone, Don Murphy, and Jane Hamsher were set to produce. Creative differences ensued between Hayes and financier/distributor 20th Century Fox. Chris Columbus, Sam Hamm, James Cameron, Peter Jackson, and the Hughes Brothers later became involved.
With William Broyles, Jr.'s script, Tim Burton was hired as director, and the film was put into active development. Lawrence Konner and Mark Rosenthal rewrote the script, and filming took place from November 2000 to April 2001. Planet of the Apes was released to mixed reviews, but was a financial success. Much criticism focused on the confusing ending, although Rick Baker's prosthetic makeup designs were praised. Despite its financial success Fox chose not to produce a sequel, and instead rebooted the Apes franchise altogether with Rise of the Planet of the Apes.
