Old Dominion University's official mascot is Big Blue, a friendly lion who is king of the Monarchs. In 2010, Big Blue was named the Capital One National Mascot of the Year after competing head to head in competition against 15 mascots from prestigious Universities. Big Blue, appears at all Football Home Games, Men's and Women's home basketball games and many other athletic and special events throughout the year.
Big Blue is available for community special events, based on his schedule. To request an appearance, please send a written request to Dawn Adams Baidoo, Spirit Coordinator, at dcadams@odu.edu. Requests must be received at least 30 days in advance of the event. University requests will receive first priority. An appearance fee of $50 to provide for transportation costs is required for all non-University events. Additional donations are accepted as well.
