It started out as a simple hobby when, lo and behold, I realized I have just accumulated 20,000 distinct toy characters in my collection... and the number is still growing. This blog is a great space to share to others just how amazing some of these characters are especially the ones that may have been forgotten or perhaps even those deemed insignificant. Visit Percy's World of Toys as often as you can and witness how the list progresses right before your eyes. Enjoy.

3356. Azrael the cat
Azrael is one of the main characters of the Smurfs cartoon show, who has appeared on the show up until Season 8. He is Gargamel's cat who usually is helpful in ferreting out hiding Smurfs for his master, though at times he tends to get in the way of his master, resulting in Gargamel getting angry with his pet for his incompetence. In the movie Azrael is an orange tabby. Azrael has gotten his revenge on Gargamel for abusing him and twice throwing him into unknown places and calling "Are you dead?". He does this by saying "Are you dead?" in cat language after Gargamel is hit by a bus.
Trivia
* Azrael was originally female in the comic books, but was changed to a male in the cartoon show and returned as a male in later comics.
* By coincidence, Azrael to Gargamel is like Muttley to Dastardly, since they were all done by the same voice actors.
* His character was voiced by Don Messick in the cartoon show and by Frank Welker in the 2011 Smurfs movie.
* Though appearing as a loyal pet to Gargamel, he actually got tired of Gargamel and turned against him. However, the new Smurf movie features him again working for Gargamel and still loyal.
* The new movie features him as an orange tabby, more specifically an orange Domestic Shorthaired cat.
* As a sort of continuity nod, Chlorhydris in "My Smurfy Valentine" had found that Azrael was a cat that descended from royalty -- which turned out to be true as the Smurfs had found his distant ancestor, the cat pharoah Azra, in ancient Egypt.

2916. Grouchy Smurf
Grouchy Smurf is the misanthropic grouch of the Smurf village. His catchphrase is "I hate (something somebody else mentions)". Grouchy usually has a scowl on his face. In the comics version He was originally a normal Smurf, changed only when bitten by a Bzz fly in the comic story "The Black Smurfs" (adapted into English as "The Purple Smurfs"). In the cartoon version he seems to have always have been a grouch, and was not THE smurf bitten by the Bzz fly. Despite his grouchiness, he has a soft spot for Baby Smurf and the Smurflings. In the movie, his grouchiness is implied to be from insecurity.
2915. Harmony Smurf
Harmony Smurf is a musician who especially loves to play the trumpet, although his musical ability shows a total lack of harmony, like the singing of a certain ancient Gaulish bard, and he is usually asked to stop playing as soon as he gets started. Some English editions name him as Rocker Smurf.

2684. Brainy Smurf
Brainy Smurf is one of the main characters of the Smurfs cartoon show, who has appeared on the show throughout its entire run. He is the village intellectual who's not afraid to share his "wisdom" with his fellow Smurfs, even though it usually results in his being booted to the village limits. . He is also a very prolific author of many books, usually with his name in the title, and he is Papa Smurf's apprentice and assistant in his laboratory. He is easily identifiable by his glasses, his books, and his New York Accent. A running gag through out the series is Brainy getting kicked out of Smurf Village.
Brainy is the most self-centered of the Smurfs (even more so than Vanity Smurf), and annoys almost everyone, even Papa Smurf. Brainy always shows off, claiming that he knows everything, even though the only things he knows about are about himself. He even claimed that he was his own favorite subject. Despite this, he is well-liked whenever he is not being a bossy know-it-all.
His house is full of stacks of books that were all written by himself. The books are either manuals, encyclopedias, or -- probably his favorites -- "Quotations by Brainy Smurf" books. Brainy always wants someone to read them, but everyone-even the nicest people- turns them down or pretends to like them.
2683. Hefty Smurf
Hefty Smurf is one of the main characters of the Smurfs cartoon show, who has appeared on the show throughout its entire run.
He is considered the strongest and bravest Smurf of them all who's willing to use his strength to help out his fellow Smurfs. He is easily identified by the heart-with-arrow tattoo on his right upper arm.
He spends his mornings exercising, and his house is full of work-out equipment. Hefty is also the most athletic of the Smurfs, able to climb up tall trees and bring down whatever is up there without much effort.
Hefty mainly carries the heavy load that others Smurfs can't. Throughout the season, he is mostly helping Handy Smurf by carrying heavy objects. Hefty is also one of the few Smurfs who will accept any kind of dangerous journey, making him one of the top choices to send out of the Village to retrieve something.
2682. Gutsy Smurf
Gutsy Smurf is a Smurf character that's slated to appear in the upcoming The Smurfs movie. Little is known about the character at this present time. His physical appearance includes a Scottish kilt worn over a white pair of pants and brown sideburns on his face, something not normally found on an adult Smurf his age. Gusty also has a strong Scottish accent, and is quite vicious. he is voice by Alan Cumming in the 2011 Smurfs Movie.
2681. Clumsy Smurf
Clumsy Smurf is one of the main characters of the Smurfs cartoon show, who has appeared on the show throughout its entire run. He is the most underestimated out of all the Smurfs. Every time there is a competition of some sorts, Clumsy is not considered to be a good player due to him always dropping or breaking things. Clumsy's catch phrases are "Whoops!" and "Golly."
2680. Baker Smurf
Baker Smurf is a character that only appears in the Smurf comics as the Smurfs' baker, and in the upcoming live-action Smurfs film. He wears an apron and a baker's hat. He is always making cakes, cookies and other goodies; however, he and Greedy were combined in the TV series. He is featured in some comics. He is shown that he loves to eat berries as shown in "The Fountain of Youth". He hates it when Greedy Smurf takes his treats. Baker has more time chasing than baking. He is one of the characters slated to appear in the upcoming The Smurfs movie.
2677. Papa Smurf
Papa Smurf is a gentle, wise, and knowledgeable village elder. He serves as the Smurfs' leader and as a paternal figure to whom the Smurfs usually go to when they require counsel. He is always concerned about the Smurf's wellbeing and harmony. He is very altruistic and always ready to help somebody, whether he is a Smurf or human. Papa Smurf also has diplomatic skills in case they meet humans or other creatures, and usually manages to speak without using the "smurf" word.
In the original comic books by Peyo, Papa Smurf had a more forceful personality, and had a short-temper (often seen getting angry with his smurfs when they did something wrong or were not obeying his orders). Papa Smurf's duty is to ensure all the Smurfs of the village get along well, are nice to each other, and don't fight. When real chaos rises among them, Papa Smurf takes very drastic measures, often using magic, such as switching bodies with Gargamel in order to pretend to attack the village ("Smurf Versus Smurf" comic adventure) ("Romeo & Smurfette" TV episode) or even creating a whole other village of evil doubles of the original Smurfs ("The Smurf Menace" issue).
While Papa Smurf would sometimes prefer not to have to constantly fix problems, he came to realize it was his calling. One time he said that because he may not be able to be the village leader forever, every Smurf should have a brief experience of commanding the village, which was signified by him handing over his signature red hat and having the designated Smurf wear it and direct others on a construction project. The Smurfs were then at different points wearing the hat and being referred to as "Papa Greedy", "Papa Clumsy" or "Mama Smurfette". While Papa felt it important that each Smurf gain leadership skills, his true purpose was to be always guiding the Smurfs and fixing their problems and mistakes.
When he is not doing his leader or "father-knows-best" job, Papa Smurf indulges in his favorite hobby: magical chemistry, or alchemy. He often makes elixirs to help Smurfs who get themselves into trouble. The French comic portrays Papa Smurf constantly preparing magical drinks from white hellebore (the drawings in which the effects of these alchemical brews are shown are both turbulent and amusing). As well as his house, he also has a laboratory containing several chemical devices, and he tries to create potions for the good of the Smurfs, yet sometimes fails - such as the time he accidentally created a substance that turned any living thing into a huge monster (see the album: The Smurfs and the Cracoucass and the cartoon episode "The Smurfs and the Howlibird"). Impassioned by this activity, he occasionally leaves the village in order to get the needed ingredients.

2419. Papa Smurf
Papa Smurf is a male fictional character from the Smurfs. He is the third oldest of the Smurfs (after Grandpa and Nanny) at 543 years old (while the other Smurfs are approximately 100 years old), but is quite energetic for his age. He can be easily distinguished from the other Smurfs by his red clothes and his bushy white beard (which was brown in his younger days). Don Messick provided Papa Smurf's voice in the 1980s animated series and the special, Cartoon All-Stars to the Rescue, and Jonathan Winters in the upcoming 2011 film.
In the original French version, his name is "Le Grand Schtroumpf" — "the Great Smurf" or "the Big Smurf" — which could also be interpreted as "Le Grand Père", French for grandfather, which would be in keeping with his elderly appearance and paternal way.

1267. Greedy Smurf
Greedy Smurf is an exceptionally gluttonous Smurf. He has an exceptional interest in eating cakes and other pastry. Greedy usually cannot seem to help himself, and he is often chased by Baker Smurf for stealing snacks and food. In the cartoon series, his character was combined with that of Chef Smurf, where he enjoys baking and cooking, but eventually ends up eating his own creations, hence the name. He wears a chef's toque and apron in the comics—but a handkerchief, instead of an apron, in the cartoon.
